#ExhaleProject
Learn more about the #ExhaleProject below, and explore the hashtag across social media to see how this initiative has sparked creative conversations and promoted wellness for all. Originally launched by Miss Topeka 2019 through the Miss Kansas Organization, the project has now reached thousands of individuals across 20+ states—proving the power of community, connection, and conversation.
The #ExhaleProject is a creative initiative designed to promote mental health awareness across all ages. At its heart is a simple yet powerful symbol—a handmade bracelet featuring a positive word, serving as a daily reminder to "inhale the positives and exhale the negatives." These bracelets not only spark visible and verbal conversations within communities but also build a supportive online space through the hashtag #ExhaleProject. The true impact, however, lies in the act of passing it on: when the wearer encounters someone who may need the reminder even more, they gift the bracelet—sharing what they saw in that person, the meaning behind the word, and the purpose of the project. In this way, awareness grows, one word at a time.
CREATION
In alignment with my ongoing mental wellness work, I’ve brought #ExhaleProject D.I.Y. bracelet-making into classrooms across Minnesota and even sent out pre-packed kits during the COVID-19 pandemic—using creativity as a tool to spark healing and awareness.
CONNECTION
By encouraging each bracelet to be passed on with purpose, the #ExhaleProject fosters meaningful connections—turning a small, tangible act of kindness into a lasting, heart-centered conversation about mental health within schools, homes, and communities.
CONTINUITY
The #ExhaleProject creates a ripple effect of continuity, where each shared bracelet carries forward not just a word, but a movement rooted in compassion, courage, and community care. Anyone, anywhere, is encouraged to use this initiative themselves and keep it forward moving.
